October Heat!

It seems crazy that the last time I posted a blog it was freezing cold. We're now in the middle of a heat wave.

So freshen up for summer with lovely light tablecloths, sprightly painted or smooth jacaranda wooden hearts. Spiky porcupine baskets add texture and interest to any space. And the magazine mirror is charming!

Happy New Year!

I can't believe it is the start of another year already!

I'm looking forward to opening the factory after the Christmas shut down - we start painting again from Monday 11th January, so the new stock should start coming out in a couple of weeks.

I'm really excited about this year and look forward to developing this website to showcase new and interesting products  throughout 2010.

Thank you for your support.

New Arrivals

I'm pleased to say we have a variety of products back in stock, in time for Christmas and some interesting new textiles from Zambia.

Give the tiny olive spoons to a friend with a pot of bath salts, for a unique gift.

Or the olive wood scoop with a bag of delicious muesli for a stocking filler...

Ilala placemats and runners are really reasonably priced, and special too. They are useful, easy to clean, attractive, contemporary...

Doon Estate Christmas Festival 28 November

If you are in Harare, come down to Doon Estate on Saturday 28 November to enjoy the Christmas festivities. The shops will be open from 9am til 8pm on that day, and the Festival starts at 2.30pm.

Entrance from that time is $1 for anyone over 12 years old.

FOOD WINE BOOKS

We have lots of different food exhibitors coming, so you can eat there or find something delicious to take home - from cheeses, deli foods, curry and rice, samoosas and chilli bites, cakes and sweet treats, pickles, jams and marmalades, fresh bread and croissants to hamburgers, hot dogs, candy floss and ice-cream.

Wines will be flowing freely as a number of suppliers will be offering tastings and sales.

As for the books, we have local authors and publishers joining us on the day - if you don't know what we can produce in this country you are in for a treat! - and beautiful imported books. A wide selection of titles for adults and children, for book club, or for your own special collection.

Crafts from the Doon shops will be exhibited and the shops themselves are open all day. The atmosphere at Doon in the early evening as the lights go on and the candles are lit is really lovely - do stay for a drink or a bite to eat as the sun goes down and enjoy browsing for your Christmas gifts.

Father Christmas arrives at 4pm! It will be lots of fun for the kids and you can buy a ticket for a goodie bag from him from 2.30 onwards.

Caesar the saxophonist will be performing in the early evening, adding to the ambience and the relaxed atmosphere. Please come down even if it is raining - the marquees will provide cover for all.

The Christmas Season approaches

It seems unbelievable to think that Christmas is less than two months away. The Christmas fairs are starting around Harare - if you are here please visit my stand at the Flying Frog (11 Arcturus Rd) on Wednesday 11 November from 10am. There'll be lots of lovely gift ideas there.

Doon Estate in Msasa has its Book Fair and Food Market tomorrow 31st October from 9am til lunch - this will be a feast of fantastic books, both imported and local, not to mention all the delicious food goodies on sale as well.

The Doon Estate Christmas Festival on the 28th November promises to be a luxurious celebration of food, wine, books, art, photography, crafts, live music, and Father Christmas will be there for the kids. More on that one later.

If you want to place a specific linen order for Christmas please do so by Friday 13th November to give us enough time to make it.

But there'll be lots of stock available too! I am loving working in delicious new combinations of colours - lime, chartreuse, pinks, yellows and blues - so drop me an email, pop in to the shop, or browse the site to see what's happening.  As always, feedback most welcome, Emma.

New Hand Made Products Just Arrived!

Beautiful new telephone wire baskets in stunning summer colour combinations have just arrive from Matableleland. Our Zimbabwean baskets differ from the famous South African ones in that they are a little more "organic" in shape, and often incorporate beads in the rim or sewn into the body of the basket. The ladies who weave these baskets do so with such creativity and we are thrilled to support their work. It is always a delight to pick up the consignment and see the stunning designs and colour combinations they have come up with. We supply the wire (imported - not stolen from our battered telephone system I promise!). We also help with some ideas but each lady has her own flair and superb skill.

Along with the wire baskets I am thrilled to announce the arrival of some more Gogo-Olive Shamwaris - the stunning hand knitted animals from Mutare.

And the summer colour range of hand painted linen is fresh and light, in lime, orange, yellow, light blue, and touches of bright pink.

To my fellow Zimbos - please don't be afraid to use the shopping basket - nothing is set in stone, everything will be confirmed via email before payment is requested - it is Emma behind the computer screen, not a nameless, faceless cash-eating monster who will swallow your credit card details and run off with your money! Feel free to send comments and feedback about the site, I'd love to hear from you.
